EvoGrid, JSON and FSM
31/08/09
Integrated the support for JSON into the EvoGrid run generator. This involved integrating libCURL, YAJL, and a FSM.
This means the generator can pull a configuration off a web server (or local file), parse it using only a VERY minimum of memory, with no intermediate DOM structure, or even a loc -
Final day of server moving
28/08/09
Did the last things that needed to be done before the old servers could be shut down. Currently experiencing some domain resolution issues, which is hopefully related to propagation. -
Apache2 MaxChildren
27/08/09
Spent time today tracking down an issue on the VPS where Apache would become unresponsive, and time out. Everything else seemed to be working.
Thought it was a property of being on the VPS, so was looking for exotic things like TCP connection limits. It was simply MaxChildren being set at a san -
Joomla, Gallery2, MySQL and Simple PHP Blog
26/08/09
Moved an early version of Joomla over to the DS VPS.
Ran into problems with the old mysqldump not back-ticking field names that became keywords in new versions of mysql. Also, under the old version/build of MySQL, character fields were latin1, with one byte per character. On the new host, chara -
Mailman porting
24/08/09
Moved the Mailman mailing lists from the old server to the new one. Fortunately this was very easy as we had a good Mailman backup system in place. config_list is used to export/import the list configuration (sans password), and list_members/add_members for the members.
Found some peculia -
Plesk, QMail & SpamAssassin
23/08/09
Migrated the mail accounts to the VPS, found out that Plesk (the VPS control panel) considers SpamAssassin to be a premium feature. Fortunately that's just the control panel for it, removing then re-adding the psa-spamassassin package through the normal Debian package management will apply the -
Server move
22/08/09
Back to focusing on the server migration, going to do the email and largest website change over this weekend when the traffic is lower. -
EvoGrid, Makefiles & Nagios
21/08/09
Tweaked around and compiled (to C) the EvoGrid JSON FSM, committing it.
Grabbed the last release of YAJL and built it for use.
Did some thinking and research about Digital Spaces communicating with another system over CORBA, looked at a Python system for accessing and implementing CO -
EvoGrid & Finite State Machines
20/08/09
Prototyped out some more PHP that generates JSON in the appropriate format I want.
Implemented a global configuration data structure for the EvoGrid GROMACS run generator, so that all the changeable data can be specified in one spot, versus as it was needed in the initial implementation.< -
EvoGrid Web Service
17/08/09
Implemented a very basic PHP based simulation generator for EvoGrid. Currently is just uses predefined data, the same as I've been using in the binary generator (give or take one or two tweaks).
uses PHP's native JSON support.
Installed JSONovich into Firefox for working wi -
Websites
16/08/09
Spent a bti of time today transferring some more of the domains/websites over to DigitalSpace's VPS. -
Joomla, VPS, Mailman
13/08/09
Spent a day transferring content from digitalspace.com to the new joomla.
Fixed breakage to mailing lists because a domain with only a simple website was being used for high traffic mailing lists, which broke when the domain name was transferred. Temporarily fixed by pointing the lists su -
Domain names and websites
12/08/09
Transferred more domains over to the DigitalSpace VPS.
Fixed one of the domain names not resolving. .org domains require two nameservers, even if the are both names for the same machine. .com domains are happy with just one nameserver, but if you put in two mapping to the same machine, an erro -
VPS, Domain transfers, and reCAPTCHA
11/08/09
Went through and checked some of the sites that had been transferred to the VPS, PHP wasn't enabled by default so some sites that were "pure HTML" had contact forms that were failing.
Went through the contact form code that wasn't working on the new server, decided to replac -
HDD Replacement
10/08/09
Took a LONG time with the HDD replacement, due to slow copy speeds and erroring out with bad sectors overnight. fsck killed off the contents of one of the partitions (assuming due to the bad sectors) and had to switch back and tarball it since sector copying wasn't working (and because it was i -
Site Migration & HD Replacement
09/08/09
I've been transferring sites from DigitalSpace old server to the new VPS.
Set up Joomla for Bruce to start moving DigitalSpace.com content into.
ISP went down this afternoon so took the opportunity to transfer the content to the new HDD (to replace the dying one). Going slow, pr -
From Debian Sarge to Lenny
06/08/09
Tried to upgrade an old debian box. Part way through the dist upgrade, it realized I was still using a 2.4 kernel, and the new libc6 needed a 2.6 kernel. As this happened half way through a dist-upgrade, the packages were left in a broken state. While trying to fix this, got the machine to a point w -
VPS & DriveOnMars
06/08/09
Got access to the new VPS today, after registering from a US IP address, due to using a US billing address from an Australian IP raising a security check.
Familiarized myself with the system, logging in to the various control panels and SSH.
Transferred DriveOnMars over as our first -
VPS & GNPS
05/08/09
Signed DigitalSpace up for VPS hosting at StartLogic, waiting for account confirmation before I can continue.
Spent some time on the GNPS website, updating their staff list. Removing the repetitive Word formatting shrunk the file to 1/3rd the original size. -
VPS And OpenProj to dotProject
04/08/09
Shopped around VPS providers, waiting for an email from one before deciding between them and another. Will definitely be paying for one tomorrow.
Gave up on OpenProj, wiped out my previous dotProject install and installed the latest release version. Entered the project details that were i -
GNPS Website & OpenProj
01/08/09
Downloaded and did some initial changes to the GNPS website.
Tried to use OpenProj to track my working efforts, but spent more time trying to convince it I was allowed to work on weekends.
